Veterinarian: Spaying and neutering are beneficial for pets

Spaying and neutering can promote good health and good behavior in pets, while helping control pet overpopulation, says veterinarian Barbara Bytwerk. Although spaying and neutering are advisable for young pets, the procedures also can be performed on older animals to help lower the risk of diseases that arise when reproductive systems are intact, Dr. Bytwerk adds.
