Big Oil takes aim at RFS during House panel hearing

The oil industry and its allies told members of a House oversight committee that the Renewable Fuel Standard is failing to achieve its purpose of promoting energy security and is instead driving up commodity prices. But Rep. Jackie Speier, D-Calif., told fellow committee members that maintaining the RFS "is critical if America is to succeed in the clean energy race of the 21st century." Jeremy Martin, a senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists, told the panel that the RFS offers a "steady path forward" for building a strong cellulosic biofuel industry.
