Can decoding someone's DNA help improve their skin? Some experts say it can -- especially when it comes to detecting a likelihood of sun damage and other risks. "DNA information can reveal genetic tendencies or variations, known as single-nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPs, which are relative to firmness and elasticity, wrinkling, sun damage and free radical damage," said Judith Steinhouser, clinical director at Dermagenics. People who get that information while they're young can take steps to minimize their inherited risks, she says.
