HASC approves defense bill that ignores sequestration

The House Armed Services Committee today passed a $552.1 billion defense spending bill for 2014 that ignores $50 billion in sequestration cuts set to take effect later this year. Earlier this week, an HASC aide told reporters that lawmakers who fail to take sequestration into account when formulating a budget are "living in a fantasy world." The Pentagon is to submit a report to Congress on July 1 on how the 2014 budget would need to be modified under sequestration.
