Low-energy sensors may open door to the Internet of Things

Taking another step toward the Internet of Things, researchers at TTP, a U.K.-based technology firm, have developed wireless sensors that use virtually no power and can be used to provide connectivity for a wide variety of medical devices and everyday products, according to this article. The sensors could monitor the state of machinery or surgical implants, for instance, drawing the tiny amount of energy they need from such sources as radio waves, vibration, heat and light, and biological processes.
