Rep. Shimkus: Nev. site is the most viable solution for used fuel repository

Republican lawmakers have spent years thoroughly reviewing a temporary alternative to the Yucca Mountain repository in Nevada, particularly an interim storage facility for used nuclear fuel, following President Barack Obama's decision to abandon the project, writes Rep. John Shimkus, R-Ill. The Nevada site, however, is still the most viable and quickest solution to the country's used fuel storage woes, Shimkus writes. "Citizens want a sound nuclear policy and a safe solution for spent nuclear fuel disposal. The current law focusing on the Nevada project remains the best solution and, in time, the most likely to succeed," he writes.
