Students get a close-up lesson on life in the lettuce fields

Twenty students from the Center for Rural Leadership in Arizona awoke at 4 a.m. recently to spend a day walking in the shoes of agricultural workers in the Yuma area, where labor firm The Growers Company supplies about 2,300 workers daily to farms during peak growing months. Many of the workers commute from Mexico, a round trip that can take up to five hours.
