Surgical site infection rates vary among pediatric scoliosis procedures

Pediatric patients who underwent a procedure to correct their non-idiopathic scoliosis had higher surgical site infection rates compared with the idiopathic scoliosis procedure group, according to a study in the Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. Researchers looked at 1,347 surgical procedures and found that Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were the most common pathogens for such infections.
