Hayward Air Rally to celebrate 50th anniversary

The Hayward Air Rally began as a friendly bet between two pilots in 1963. The event is celebrating its 50th anniversary this summer with a special three-day route from Hayward, Calif., to AirVenture 2014 in Oshkosh, Wis. Past air rally routes have never been more than one day long. Thirty aircraft have entered and organizers hope that number will reach 50 by the time the event takes off.
