Multi-unit franchise ownership requires more additional risk and initial debt than single-unit ownership, but the rewards are also higher, both in profit and the freedom to "get yourself out of the day-to-day fray so you can work on your business instead of in your business," NRD Holdings President and CEO Aziz Hashim said. Hashim, who serves as chairman of the 2014 Multi-Unit Franchising Conference and IFA treasurer, grew his business from one KFC franchise in 1996 to a portfolio of 35 franchises in the U.S. and Canada.
