Early stage companies may fall flat for a number of reasons, according to venture capitalist Barry Schuler, formerly the chairman and CEO of America Online. In certain cases, companies may be outmaneuvered by their competitors, or they may simply have failed to produce a product that works and that the market wants. "Tech is a very fast-moving, challenging environment," he said.
