Report: Effective treatment lags for many with psychiatric disorders

As many as a quarter of Americans suffer from psychiatric disorders every year and nearly half suffer disorders during their lifetime, but only about a third receive effective treatment for the problems, according to a major, once-a-decade report from the National Institutes of Health. The findings were based on interviews with nearly 10,000 adults, and they show the prevalence of mental illness to have stabilized in the last 15 years for the first time since the 1950s.
