Chicago budget plan cuts jobs, school programs

To ease a $218 million deficit, Chicago school chief Arne Duncan released a proposed budget Tuesday that raises property taxes and imposes $88 million in reductions to jobs, consulting expenses and school programs, as well as a pay freeze. Chicago Teachers Union President Marilyn Stewart criticized the plan by noting that the district should be trimming its own bureaucracy.
