The number of Virginia students completing "portfolio tests" as an alternative to testing requirements under No Child Left Behind has increased sharply since the 2006-07 school year, according to this article. The portfolios include a year's worth of student work, and typically are used for students with serious disabilities, but Virginia has started accepting portfolios from students with learning disabilities and limited English proficiency.
