Are Teach for America recruits needed during an economic downturn?

One Las Vegas teacher and former Teach for America recruit is concerned about his district hiring TFA educators during a time when the economic downturn has resulted in uncertain job security and fewer available teaching jobs. Although the group often helps the district with its most hard-to-fill positions in math, science and special education, some teachers argue that the group helps keep teacher salaries low by bringing in TFA recruits willing to work for entry-level pay.
