Caterpillar, Electro-Motive hope to boost market share

Caterpillar may be able to take back market share it relinquished to General Electric now that it is acquiring Electro-Motive Diesel, according to Electro-Motive's CEO John Hamilton. Caterpillar is buying the company from a pair of private-equity firms for $820 million in a deal that should close before the end of the year. Electro-Motive owns about 30% of the market share of the North American locomotive market, which comprises just Electro-Motive and GE.
