The City University of New York has $1.2 billion worth of construction projects planned over the next 10 years. The investment was expected to be a boon to New York's struggling construction industry, but some of the projects will be slowed by state and city fiscal constraints. Still, CUNY plans to spend about $600 million on construction in 2010. "Overall, we feel pretty fortunate. We have 11 major projects under construction," says Iris Weinshall, CUNY vice chancellor.
