Qantas, Virgin Atlantic say they are open to merger proposals

Qantas Airways CEO Alan Joyce said the airline, the biggest in Australia, would be "a great asset for anyone," but he would prefer an intercontinental agreement. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic Airways is looking into options as mergers among carriers in the U.S. and Europe put pressure on its position, according to CEO Steve Ridgway.
