Study: Patients with type 1 diabetes benefit from type 2 diabetes drug

Type 2 diabetes drug Victoza taken once-daily for six months was associated with improved glucose control, lower insulin use and weight loss among patients with type 1 diabetes, a study presented at the annual meeting of The Endocrine Society found. Experts said adding Victoza to insulin treatment reduced the patients' blood glucose levels by about 15% and insulin use by about 30%. Researchers also noted an average weight loss of 10 pounds in Victoza-treated patients.
