Given the age of many of the nation's nuclear power plants and cost competition from other energy sources, meeting the challenges of maintenance efficiently takes on critical importance. Several measures can help, including working with vendors to ensure they have equipment that may be needed readily available and doing contingency planning that includes purchasing commercial-grade parts and upgrading them.
