Brazil may cut interest rate for loans to cane growers

Brazil's National Monetary Council will decide next week whether to cut the interest rate of a BNDES-managed credit line for sugarcane farmers from a variable rate of about 8.3% today to a fixed rate of 5.5%. Many companies are delaying loan requests because they are waiting for the interest rate to decline, said Carlos Eduardo Cavalcanti, head of biofuels at BNDES.
