What is the protocol when a job offer is rescinded?

If a job offer is withdrawn, job seekers should ask why, and may want to consult a lawyer, U.S. News Careers editor Jada A. Graves writes. If a candidate suspects the offer was withdrawn because of race, gender or any other protected class, legal action may be a possibility. Candidates also could have a claim if they failed a background or credit check. "If you feel uneasy about the reason behind a rescinded offer, consult with an employment attorney to determine what may be done," Graves advises.
