New calls for better vision checks for preschoolers

New guidelines issued by a government-appointed task force call on pediatricians and health workers to thoroughly check preschoolers' vision for lazy eye and other disorders. A major study's finding that the best vision screening tests currently detect only two-thirds of eye disorders in preschoolers has fueled debate over whether all young children should get comprehensive exams from eye doctors.
