Detroit announces final school closure list as overhaul gets under way

Detroit officials gave a reprieve to 18 district schools slated for closure but confirmed plans to close 32 campuses and one support facility over the next six months to save $28 million a year. Many costly alternative and special-education programs will be consolidated as part of the districtwide overhaul, while programs such as single-gender schools will be expanded to offer students more choices.
