Electronic nose can use smartphones to smell gases

Europe's IMEC researchers say they have designed an electronic nose -- an ultrasensitive, low-power sensor -- that can detect gases and be scaled down to work on wireless networks. The IMEC, Europe's largest research center, and its Holst Center partners say the sensor will be able to detect a range of health conditions based on breath samples as well as gauge the presence of pollutants or toxins in food and the air.
