Enforcement of CMS telemedicine rule for hospitals is deferred

The Joint Commission is delaying enforcement of its Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services telemedicine requirements for hospitals from July 15 to March next year. The accrediting body is delaying implementation so that it can include new elements of performance to bring its requirements in line with the standards for telemedicine services set forth by CMS. Hospitals have until July 26 to comment on the rule changes proposed by CMS.
