HHS panel considers using HIT to reduce patient care disparities

A recent Health IT Policy Committee meeting focused on identifying ways to leverage health information technology to reduce disparities in patient care based on race, language and ethnicity. The group said the proposed meaningful use requirements calling for data collection in these areas could help providers to improve health outcomes for underserved populations, which may be used as a quality measure to qualify for meaningful use incentive payments.
