Large class sizes net extra pay for Kentucky district's teachers

A Kentucky school district paid teachers about $1.3 million in bonuses over the past school year because class sizes exceed specified limits. Under the Jefferson County teachers' contract, educators can ask for an instructional assistant to help when class sizes exceed set ratios, or they can request to be paid $1.65 for every 30 minutes of the school day per each student over the limit.
