Maine egg farm in animal-cruelty case agrees to settlement

Maine Contract Farming of Turner, which admitted to 10 animal-cruelty counts, has agreed to pay $25,000 in fines and $100,000 to the state Department of Agriculture to be used for tracking hens at in-state egg farms. The state's Agriculture Department filed charges against the firm after the release of an undercover video that showed the farm's hens being mistreated.
