New airfare disclosure requirements could be far-reaching

All sectors of the travel industry -- from airlines to travel agents -- would be affected by proposed new rules on airfare quotes and fee disclosures, according to experts. The DOT proposal requiring fare quotes to include passenger facility charges, security fees and other charges would apply to print ads, booking engines, e-mails and even social media. And the new rules may not stop there: Regulators also may require fare quotes that include fees for up to two checked bags and other services such as reserved seating.
