Therapeutic village in Montreal helps adults, teens with disabilities

Adults and teens with disabilities are thriving at a self-contained community north of Montreal, say family members of the residents. Maison Emmanuel features four group homes and promotes healthy and productive living for its residents who have special needs. The ratio of residents to staff -- who are trained volunteers -- is one-to-one, and the nonprofit community founded by a former special-education teacher is inspired by Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner, who once advocated for "children in need of special care of the soul."
