An award-winning high-rise apartment building in Christchurch, New Zealand, will be demolished as part of rebuilding efforts. The concrete structure cost about $12.4 million, and the developer of the Gallery Apartments said that the building lived up to its expectations "to stay upright, absorb the energy and break and crack but not fall down." However, the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority deemed that repair of the structure was not economical.
