Science academies push for research and policy

Science academies from five emerging and eight developed economies issued two statements May 29, one of which pledges to support international, national and regional policymakers to devise sustainable development policy after 2015. They also encouraged developing countries to address rising drug resistance and renew commitment to drug discovery. The statements come after a March meeting in India of academy presidents from countries including G-8 members Russia, Germany, Japan, Canada, France, Italy, the U.K. and the U.S., as well as Brazil, India, Mexico, China and South Africa.
