Ore. students collect data to support change in meal utensils, win award

Student council members at Helman Elementary School in Ashland, Ore., have won a city-sponsored sustainability competition for their two-week experiment to support switching from plastic, disposable utensils to metal utensils. Data collected by students showed they could be responsible for keeping utensils out of the trash, students said. "They are a great group of kids," said Principal Glenna Stiles. "You can't underestimate the power of little people."
