Lawmakers tackle E-rate abuse

Puerto Rico received $101 million in E-rate grants to wire its schools for the Internet, even though it lacked the requisite equipment PCs and upgraded electrical systems to make use of the Internet gear. The district's situation is just one of several cases of E-rate fraud, waste and mismanagement that have triggered a U.S. House hearing scheduled for next week.
