Statins no help in abating aortic stenosis, as widely assumed

Researchers have found statins do not halt aortic stenosis, despite the expectation in the medical community the drugs would reduce the progression of the narrowing of a heart valve. It was assumed that since the condition is similar in many ways to atherosclerosis, which is helped by statins, aortic stenosis would be also, but a study concluded the treatment with Pfizer's Lipitor was no more effective than a placebo.
