A $10B investment in the environment?

Last week's announcement that United Airlines will buy up to $10 billion in new aircraft was widely viewed as a sign of a turnaround for the airline industry. But it could also be viewed as an environmental play, according to a Wall Street Journal blog, which notes that fuel efficiency and carbon emissions go hand-in-hand. "United's planned investment might stretch its balance sheet now, but getting new, more fuel-efficient aircraft could pay dividends for years to come.
