German researchers extract water from thin air

German researchers are studying ways to extract water from the air, even in the driest of climates such as deserts. The solar-powered process sucks the water out of air humidity with hygroscopic brine, a saline solution. The Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology IGB created towers to house the process that can run autonomously to provide drinking water.
