Pediatricians have role to play in stopping the bully

Pediatricians are giving bullies and their victims the attention they deserve, particularly in light of research on the adverse long-term effects of bullying, writes Dr. Perri Klass in the New York Times. He said pediatricians should be proactive in asking youngsters about bullying and encouraging parents and school officials to take action to stop it. The AAP next month will issue an updated official policy statement on the pediatrician's role in preventing youth violence, including a section on bullying.
