German chemical major BASF is pouring money into its biotech crop-technology business, adding a stream of earnings to its bottom line. Among the biotech unit's new products are the "Cultivance" platform, which is similar to Monsanto's "Roundup Ready" herbicide system. "We have a strong and clear commitment to the agricultural business. We need to bring continuous innovation to the market. ... we have a clear plan to continue investing and also increasing that investment," said Markus Heldt, president of BASF Crop Protection.
