S.F. voters approve $412M disaster-preparedness program

San Francisco voters have approved a $412 million bond issue to fund improvements to the city's emergency water supply and to upgrade fire and public-safety buildings. Fire officials said the measures were needed to ensure the city was prepared to cope with large-scale disasters and to ensure firefighters had access to high-pressure water to douse fires in the aftermath of a major earthquake.
