Australia proposes reforming ad oversight, adding medtech

Pharmaceutical companies and other stakeholders have until July 12 to comment on proposals by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration to revise the approval process for various kinds of OTC-drug advertising -- to require pre-approval for ads on pay TV, for example -- and to cover ads for medical devices. In response, the Medical Technology Association of Australia came out against pre-approval for medtech ads and stressed the need for strengthening the timeliness and effectiveness of the oversight and complaints processes.
