Contemporary literature joins classics in Pa. district

A Pennsylvania district has announced that seven contemporary novels, published between 2003 and 2011, will be taught along with classics such as "Moby Dick" and "The Great Gatsby" starting next school year. The approved titles, which include "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas" by John Boyne for middle school and "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy for high schools, are expected to generate conversation among students and help them connect literature to their own lives.
