Ill. students put pen to paper as part of letter-writing projects

Letter writing has boomed this school year in Sandy Bigos' third-grade class at South Elementary School in Crystal Lake, Ill. Bigos' 25 students have been learning letter formatting, handwriting and social-interaction skills while writing letters to Crystal Lake Central High School honor students. Other schools have started pen-pal programs in efforts to boost reading and writing skills.
