EPA does not plan to set federal IST mandate

The Environmental Protection Agency does not intend to use Clean Air Act authority to set a federal mandate for inherently safer technologies, according to a new report from an interagency working group. The EPA is looking into other ways to improve chemical facility regulation under its Risk Management Plan prevention program, it adds. The report suggests the EPA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration release information and examples on ISTs within the year.
