Bill empowering New Orleans superintendent easily passes

Yesterday, the Louisiana legislature approved a bill giving New Orleans schools chief Tony Amato new powers over finances, personnel and contracting, while making it harder for him to be fired by the school board. The bill now goes to Gov. Kathleen Blanco, who is expected to sign it today.
