Apple announces next-gen iPhone

Apple CEO Steve Jobs on Monday announced a lower price and a bevy of new applications and features for its latest iPhone model, dubbed 3G, which will go on sale in the U.S. through AT&T Wireless next month, starting at $199. Jobs, who cited price as the main obstacle to selling more iPhones, described downloads on the sleeker 3G iPhone as "amazingly zippy," and detailed such new features as a built-in GPS, a longer battery life at times, and a subscription mobile Web service dubbed MobileMe that can synchronize information over a number of devices.
