Obama seeks to shore up LGBT support

An official from Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, during a conference call with 1,200 participants, sought to reassure out supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton of Obama's "rock-solid commitment to gay equality." The campaign also announced the appointments of Brian Bond, gay outreach director for the Democratic National Committee, as director of constituencies; Melissa Etheridge as a co-chair of its voter-registration effort; and Joan Garry, former executive director of GLAAD, and GLSEN founder Kevin Jennings as co-chairs of its LGBT finance operations.
