Senate works on taxing some employer-provided health benefits

A tax on employer-provided health benefits that exceed about $13,000 a year stands a good chance of becoming part of the U.S. Senate's proposal for health care overhaul, Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said. If it is adopted, the tax will probably be phased in during several years and is likely to grandfather in benefits covered by collective-bargaining agreements, Baucus said.
