Alabama area reports distemper outbreak

An outbreak of canine distemper, an airborne virus that afflicts the upper respiratory systems of infected animals, has been detected in Gardendale, Ala., prompting the local police to euthanize about 10 wild animals in the area. Veterinarians said owners can best protect their pets from contracting distemper with a vaccine.
